The new GST tax rates are finalised in four slabs which range from 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% for different goods and services. Out of these, a large number of items are kept under the 18% category. These new rates are applicable on mobile phones, gold, textiles, etc. We’ve included a pdf below where you can find the percentage of tax imposed on the purchase of different items.
The Government of India is introducing the new Goods and Service Tax Rate, with effect from July 1st, 2017. Buying anything after this date, you need to pay tax as per the lately introduced slab. However, those services like education and health-care which were exempted earlier and will continue to enjoy this concession.
GST Rate on Mobile Phones
With the new GST rates, the cost of buying mobiles will go up. On all phones purchased from July-2017 onwards, Government will charge a fixed 12% tax. Even the phone bills are going to be expensive as 18% tax is will be applicable on it. The cost is going to increase as much as Rs.30 for every 1000 rupees.
GST Gold Rate 2017
Along with many other products, the tax rate for Gold is yet to be set up. The council will take a call on these items on their next meet, which will be held on 3rd June.
GST on Readymade Garments
According to the new GST policy, 18% of tax is levied on garments. This includes readymade clothing from different brands. The decision is still pending for the textile sector, which the council will declare on their next meet.

The GST Rates for services is applicable in different percentage slabs, starting from 5% to 28%. Here is the full list of services under each percentage category.
